Population Selection

Every institution participating will be providing email addresses for six distinct groups to David Consiglio, the Principal Investigator for the survey. Specific information will be given to the Campus Survey Administrator (CSA) regarding the specific format to use to provide these addresses.

Email addresses should be provided for the following:

  • All active faculty
  • All full-time 1st year undergraduates
  • All full-time active 2nd year undergraduates
  • All full-time active 3rd year undergraduates
  • All full-time active 4th year undergraduates
  • All staff that have email addresses (excluding the staff of your merged information services organization)

To participate in the MISO survey, the CSA will provide the email addresses for the full population of typical students, faculty, and staff (minus the staff working for the merged organization) in their institution. These email addresses should be sent to David Consiglio by the first Friday of your Spring term. The full population for faculty and staff will be surveyed, and David Consiglio will select a sample of 700 typical students to be surveyed. Information from the surveys from these groups will be part of the common report for the MISO survey.

Surveying special populations

Your institution may also have a unique population of students or faculty that does not fit within the populations defined on this page. This population might include participants in graduate programs, adult education programs, or members of some other group that is unique to your institution. You may survey this additional campus population, although the data gathered from this group will not be included in the overall report of findings from the MISO 2008 Survey. This data will, however, be available to your Campus Survey Administrator.

If you wish to survey a special campus population, please notify your MISO Team Liaison before November 15, 2007. Then, please send a list of email addresses for that population to David Consiglio by the first Friday of your Spring term. You may have to cull some members from the special population to prevent any overlap between this population and one of the standard campus populations.

Questions about how to differentiate the populations should be directed to your MISO Team Liaison.
